Saber Lily - Distant Avalon

I present the latest addition to my collection, Saber Lily - Distant Avalon by Good Smile!

Have been dying to get this 1/7 scale figure since I found out about it recently. The 1st release was many years back and it was reissued in January 2012 but I missed out both releases.

Still, I managed to get a pretty good deal off eBay considering how much the market price for this figure had gone up due to the high demand.

Another factor is the sheer number of bootlegs floating around.

Bootlegs of this figure accounts for roughly two-thirds of the eBay listing for a "Saber Lily Distant Avalon" search.

I was pretty worried when bidding for this figure, fearing that it could possibly be a fake.

However, after I received the figure and examined it closely, I am positive that this is the real deal.

That being said, I will include some pointers on how to differentiate a genuine figure from a fake.

The First tell-tale sign that the figure is fake is that it will not have the Good Smile logo on the top left of the box (in my 1st picture).

Now, I must say that the head sculpt is nothing short of amazing. This is easily the most beautiful iteration of Saber to date.

She looks great from any angle, largely due to the really nice pose that she is in.

The way her skirts flares out adds alot of oomph to the dynamics of the figure.

Extremely nice paint job & detailing on her armor & dress.

If you have ever seen the bootleg version, you will notice that the the silver paint shown in this photo is of a much higher quality.

Love her hair and her signature pointy strand at the top.

Notice that the hair sculpt here is very clean and there are no wayward flashes (flashes are extraneous parts of the plastic that jut out due to an imperfect mold or improper finishing) especially between the individual strands.

It's the hair that's the dead giveaway when it comes to bootlegs. Bootlegs simply cannot match the quality of a figure from the original mold.

For further indication on whether the figure is genuine, check the connecting clear plastic part between the hand and the scabbard.

Having a clear plastic connector piece is further evidence that the figure is genuine, as the bootleg is known to have an opaque black plastic connector instead.

The real figure also comes with an additional hand that does not have a hole for the connector piece.

As for the skirt, the paintjob gives it a nice satin sheen. Edges are sharp clean and adds to the effect that Saber is in a state of motion.

And the base is another area where you can easily tell if the figure is genuine or fake.

The genuine base has a nice finishing that confers a marble like effect to the tiles. Also note the quality of the Fate Stay Night logo.

For the bootleg, the poorer finishing on the base does not produce the same marble effect and some bootlegs do not have the logo. (I suspect there are multiple bootleg versions and some that I recently examined do have the logo).

Lastly, the figure comes with 2 swords and a scabbard.

So that brings me to the end of the post.If you like Saber & don't already have this figure, I would highly recommend it to you.

Adieu, til my next post!
